History, tests and feedback

Hello all!

Thank you for taking a time to visit the page and download the game, I really appreciate it.

Before I go any further, I want to make clear that English is not my native language, so please pardon some mistakes on my part.

Why?

I wanted to take this time to explain why I decided to pursue this project and how it has evolved.

My idea started in 2019, when I read Zweihänder the RPG and was amazed by the different Professions the games has. I felt there should be a Final Fantasy tabletop RPG somewhere and so started researching. I've found a few, but they felt very complex, so I decided to make my own.

One thing I wanted from the very beginning was for characters to pursue more Jobs as the game went on. When I tried Mausritter for the first time, I made a decision, to adapt it to a Final Fantasy type game. I felt it's simplicity, time rules and inventory management were perfect for the dungeon aspects of Final Fantasy, so I hacked the living daylights out of it!

My very first draft was Mausritter with a very bad implemented Job system that was confusing and not intuitive. I have playtested it three times and I felt it was bad enough to warrant a revision.

My second draft was a very early version of the Spoony Bard Edition. This one was playtested twice, and somehow it stuck. At that point I felt this might potentially have a future. At the insistence of a friend, I've made the Goblin Cave zine as a entry product to Four Crystals.

So this is where we are now. I've uploaded Four Crystals to itch in hopes of reaching more people and potentially have more people playing it and criticizing it, I hope you like it.

I've created a Discord server for this project, if you have any questions you can ask them on itch or through Discord.

Thank you once again for reading and happy gaming!
